UN Rights of A Child

At WiP, we believe that every child has a voice and access to the same ‘rights’. We advocate for the UN convention on the Rights of a Child.

These rights lie at the heart of what we do as an organisation when working alongside children and young people, giving them responsibility as they grow older along with a voice to exercise their rights.

UNCRC Article 12 : freedom of expression
1. “the child is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child.”
2. “the child shall in particular be provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child.”

UNCRC Article 13: freedom of thought, belief and religion
– The child shall have the right to freedom of expression – freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds.”

UNCRC Article 31: leisure, play and culture
“Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”
“Member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life…”
